I have a situation that I've never run into before and am looking for some help.

I am the commissioner in a dynasty league and one of the owners has suffered a serious medical issue that will likely sideline him for quite some time. I am covering his fee for this year, but since I also own a team in the league, and I am in the same conference, I don't feel 100% comfortable in running his team for him until (if) he returns.

What I'd like to do is see if anyone out here would consider running the team as a surrogate owner until he can return. It would be free of charge for the surrogate and we'd have to see about how any prize money would be split between the surrogate and the owner (or me if the true owner does not return to the league). I'm sure we can work out something equitable to all parties. If the original owner does not return, then the surrogate would be first in line to claim the team outright.

But first, I'd like to see if anyone would be interested in filling in this year in that capacity.

Here is the league website, the team is Southern Cross and is in the George Blanda Division of the Summerall Conference:

Scribe's Legends of the Fall League

I'm looking for someone who will committed to this situation with an eye on the team's long-term success as well as trying to win this year, so as to be fair to the original owner so that if he does come back, he will have a quality team to return to.

If interested, please PM me or post here.

Thanks.

C'mom folks. A little help here, please?

Scribe, I think you have to sell his team by a certain d-day. And extend d-day as far as possible into the future.

1. You have no means of contacting Southern Cross directly or indirectly.

2. He has been unable to contact you for a long time.

3. You can't operate 2 teams in the same league yourself

4. You can't expect someone to temporarily run a team properly, free or not

5. Our concern-for and patience-with the situation has been well documented in the message boards

6. Try to find an owner to buy the team. If you can't find a buyer for an orphaned dynasty team, offer him '08 for free as incentive.

7. The 31 of us remaining will gladly pay 31 bucks instead of 30 in '09 to cover the cost as a league

He does, to a point. And I agree on many of them, but there are one or two that are hanging me up.

I haven't heard directly from Southern Cross, but his son did post a message on another league that SC will be in rehab for about 6 months. Depending on how it goes, and granted he is recovering from a heart attack and stroke, he could be ready to get back to his teams by September.
Of course, he could not be able to come back at all, which is why I feel I'm between a rock and a hard place here.
I don't want to take away his team if he can come back during the season, but there is just as good a chance he won't come back at all, so is it fair to the league to hold the team for him on the possible chance he'll come back at all?

P.S. I am not worried about the $30 fee, I've already paid that to the league account out of my own pocket. I'm more concerned with coming up with a fair solution to SC and the league.

Scribe, the man is going to be focused on real life relationships, having been granted a second chance. He's also going to be focused on dramatically changing his lifestyle. He's not going to be rushing back to his PC. My uncle survived a heart attack and his focus completely shifted afterwards. He became a different person entirely.

Do what's in the interests of the league. That's your job as Commish.

No one is going to accuse you of being dispassionate or disloyal. You've made considerable efforts and gestures but you can only do so much with one way communication. The league is ramping up for a new season in just 6 weeks. If you can't get a definitive answer from So. Cross or his family within 4 weeks, you gotta be ready to roll without him. And the silence in the interim has been telling.

We all have So. Cross in our thoughts/hearts. But you gotta prep for the season and that includes finding a new owner asap.

Good points, TFO, as always. I guess I'm looking for a perfect solution in an imperfect world.

I just hate to see you beating yourself up over a situation you didn't create and can't control.

Dump the guilt boss. So. Cross will understand that you tried ... and made a considerable effort to accommodate his return. If he doesn't I will explain it to him personally. If he still feels slighted, I will give him my killer team to play biggrin.gif

I agree with TFO. You have to act in the best interests of the league. We are running out of time. Trying to find a temp owner would be almost impossible. Finding an owner who is permanent should be a lot easier. I support yer decision either way.

Gracias.

I just sent an e-mail to his address, I think his son has been checking regularly, and asked for an update and let him know that I'll likely have to find a permanent replacement.
Unless he e-mails back that SC is able and ready to go for the draft in May, or if someone steps up and decides to fill in for one year, I'll go ahead and start recruiting a new owner.

I guess I'm feeling like I'm throwing the poor guy under the bus too. But there just may be no other way than to find a permanent replacement and then put SC on top of the wait list and let him have the first open team that comes along.

Just FYI . . .
I GLADLY would have stepped in for a ff brotha, but I do not do as much homework for IDPs . . . I would be selling the owner short. And I'm not even going to address his racist logo . . .

Every league should have a clause that states if an owner does NOT contact the Commish every XXX days, then their team could be taken away.

Richard, I'm here anytime I'm able to help out. You've been good to me and I always seek to repay the kindness of others. I simply hope that Southern Cross is able to fully recover from his health problems and I can return his team back to him when he's willing and able to manage it. Tiarzvei.gif

Alright, TFO. I just wanted to help out so I haven't even taken a look at the team. What kind of a mess have I gotten myself into, brother? unsure.gif

The team finished 14-10 last year and just missed the playoffs on a tie-breaker. It's a decent roster and it should be a playoff contender in 2008.

A great league that's been a lot of fun. As for who you have on your roster, I'd have to go check myself. dunce.gif

Actually, I need to pitch you some trade offers any way. Cause that's how we welcome you to LEGENDS brah!

True but who took all of Cross' draft picks?
