Full Version: Great win but...

Obviously its great that AZ beat Orlando (it would have been even better if the game had been televised).

But why did Matt Sauk get the start over Jeff Smoker? Anyone know? Smoker has actually played pretty well the last two weeks. Unless Smoker is injured its obvious that Coach Guy has no confidence in him.

Because Smoker is hurt and they're resting him. I don't know what the final verdict was, but last week they were saying separated shoulder. If thats the case, he can probably still play in the coming weeks if it's not too severe. Sauk filled in well, it's nice to know we have a good backup in place if Smoker is hurt badly enough to stay out a few games.

To say the game would have been better if televised is an understatement that you have overstated by continuing to state it after every win that wasn't televised.

But audio play by play was available at the Rattlers' website and it's obvious you didn't bother to listen, because the announcer, Craig Grialou, said "Matt Sauk is starting in place of Jeff Smoker for precautionary reasons" or "Smoker is being held out as a precaution" 47 times last night.

I know because I counted.

He said it three times on the very first Rattlers' drive and I decided to keep a running count.

Just little "tick marks" on a scrap of paper.

After the game was over, I counted them and it was 47. I thought that was a lot so I had my wife double check and she came up with 47 too.

Considering the game took approximately 3 hours, that's over 15 times every hour or approximately once every 3.8 minutes. If you had listened to even a small portion of the game, you couldn't have missed it.

But I guess it's easier to just come on here and ask somebody.

9th man-

Impressive post. Sorry I don't meet your fan standards by going to my computer room away from my three kids and LISTEN to an internet roadcast of the game. Had it been televised, I could have TIVO'd it and watched when my kids were asleep. Shame I didn't leave my daughter's NINTH BIRTHDAY party in order to listen to the game on the internet. You're just the better fan.

I had no idea that my comments about the games not being televised were so annoying to you. I sincerely apologize and will email my posts to you before I post them so that I can be sure that they do not offend your delicate sensibilities.

Thank you so much for the civil, informative response Lyn. Its nice to see a Rattler fan who doesn't mind being helpful.

Wow, lighten up a bit Fez -

I wasn't trying to insinuate you aren't a great fan - because you are a great fan!

You asked a question, Lynn answered the question, then I just used your post as a means to make a sarcastic post about the audio webcast of the game. That was the real gist of my post.

But since my point was about redundancy, I couldn't let your redundancy concerning televising the games slide by, now could I?

But it wasn't aimed at you. Sorry if I gave you that impression.

Ray
Fez
Okay, fair enough. Go Rattlers!

I thought both of you had good posts. Ray, thanks for the jab at the redundancy of the announcer. Fez thanks for bringing up the untelevization (yeah, I made that word up) of the games. I agree with both of you that televised Rattlers games should be more common.
You think you have it bad? I live in the sticks and don't have cable or satellite. That means NO games on ESPN, FSN, or anywhere else. I loved when channel 45 carried them. I do have internet, though. And a cell phone. And friends. I was at the D-Backs game Saturday evening while the Rattlers were playing. Introducing my 4 year-old son to baseball (which he dislikes greatly having been brought up on Arena football) was on my list of things to do. I had a friend listening to the webcast and texting me updates which I forwarded on to others, including my daughter who was traveling back from California. My friend's cable went out which shut off his internet with about 1 minute left in the game. Since the D-Back's game was over already, I called my wife and had her lay her cell phone next to my computer's speakers so I could here the end of the game. It was worth the effort! I had to do something similar for the Tampa Bay game since I was on the road during the game. Basically, I had one friend who had the game on his computer and we three-wayed the call to 3 others so there were four of us listening to the game on our mobile phones. Thank God for free weekend minutes!
Fez, I need to get your mobile number so I can add you to the list of Rattlers game texting updates. Or maybe we can get Ray to call us all and put his phone by his computer. Of course all of this is moot now that the rest of this season's games will be televised or attended by each of us.

Phil, I just gotta say.....I love the dedication. laugh.gif
