Tonight's game was the worst game of arena football I have ever been to. I knew the night was not going to be good when the PA announcer messed up going through the roster, many of the players were already out of the tunnel before their name was announced. My second complaint about the game tonight was, where the hell is the BOOM! after the touchdowns? Did Brett Bouchy get rid of that sound effect so that he could advertise his 2 lower bowl season tickets for $80 or what? The music for tonights game was below par as well, some songs were not even rock and roll.
As far as the playing goes, that's a story in itself. This was a completely different team than that who played Utah last week. There was no coverage for the QB (that's why Campbell has a sprained ankle), and Smoker holds onto the ball for too damn long. I had everyone around me say, that they wished we still had Bonner, which leads me to my next point, Siaha Burley. This guy did not show why he was the most sought out free agent in the league. I'm not sure how much we are paying him, and I don't care if he's injured playing with a sore leg, I would have much rather paid Bonner, than picked up Siaha Burley. I know it's early in the season and it's his first game back but he is going to have to make up a lot of ground, before I start to speak highly of him again (and 3 tds in a blow out doesn't mean anything).
My last complaint is the ticket prices. Maybe I'm jumping the gun or I misunderstood the reason for buying season tickets but I noticed something tonight. The seats that I sit in are $37 each. Their was a guy next to me tonight, who had purchased the ticket tonight, and only paid $30.75. I thought buying season tickets meant that you sat in the same seat every game and that it was cheaper than buying a single ticket every game for the same price. Somebody help me with this one.
In 15 years of coming to Rattlers games this is the first year I left before the final buzzer sounded. I left when there was 10:00 left, because it was so bad.
I had been waiting for this day to come since the season schedule had been released and now I have to go to work tomorrow and get a bunch of shit from my co-workers, cause my boys in black couldn't cut it.
Thank you for listening to me piss and moan, see you at the next game.

The whole thing was a joke start to finish !!! My season tickets had been moved, from where I had sat the last two seasons. I requested a change, but not where I ended up ! Also I missed the boom, on the scores ! The public address announcer had no excitement whatsoever in his voice, sounded like a teenager at the Mic. And I have said it before, and I will say it again !!!!! What is the deal with FANG ? Can't we let that go first? My stomache turns everytime he rides out, and gets in position, flicks his mullet back on both sides...uuuggghh. Now on to football. This is not the team I saw in Salt Lake, they were not prepared at all. We looked better without Burley !!!

WOW.... the worst display of football ever.
Regardless of who the quarterback is...... you need backside protection. It is a shame to see Campbell get injured and then Smoker end up on his ass almost every play while Vince Amey watches the game from the stands. Coach Guy.......What were you thinking????????? With so many second and longs, we need a strong number two guy. Siaha is a great receiver, however he needs time to set up. With the pressure that Smoker was under, he couldn't get much of anything going. We still need a great receiver..... How about J Riley?????? He is still available and was an ironman in Grand Rapids.
What a shame..... waited for six months for this????? Bad football, bad announcer, no "BOOM" after the scores? You know it is bad when the owner gets up and leaves the game early and the best part of the game was the half-time entertainment. There should be a shake up today and people should lose their jobs.
It is a shame that the old"Snake-Pit" can't seem to make it back. I remember attending Rattler games as a visitor and being so impressed with the team, the fans, the experience. At this point, it is almost embarrassing to bring guests to the game. It used to be a class act and now it almost seems like semi-pro ball.
On a positive note....... #1 Isaiah Trufant was great to watch. Nice addition defensively and had a great game.

Ditto what everyone else said. I miss the boom! No fireworks during intro and anthem? The announcer sucked. I'm not happy with my new seats either. We were forced to move after 12 years in the same seats. At least our new neighbors are fun. I agree that it's embarrassing bringing new people to the games and have them see something like last night. We went from 6 to 4 seats this year but it still might be hard to fill them. It's a good thing I'm a die hard fan.

I agree with all of the above. The music needs to be turned up as well and please get Jeff Munn back if he is available to do the PA announcer duties. The place did sound like a library without him or even the guy last year and no fireworks???
Doesn't having the player's coaches benches in the end zone look like they are the halftime entertainment people waiting to perform? It looks like a big mess down there.
Then there's the mess on the field, but they are a young team and I think they can overcome that.

Some fans who claim to be super Rattlers supporters, will say all of your posts are too negative and jumping the gun with only one home game into the season. But I hope the Rattlers management understands that fans are actually experts at being fans. Even though some critisizm seems harsh, it's only because for so long the Rattlers fans were treated with respect and those fans felt loyalty to their team. So many years slipped by with Nudo and company letting the status quo get by us without too much disappointment, but the organization was in such wreck and turmoil that it took our former majority owner Bob and his right hand Blake a couple years to try and win back loyal support. Now this so called new owner/expert comes in and sets us back even further. For once I do agree that it looks like they are being truthful and did sell a lot more season seats. With the season ticket base dwindling to around 5,000, it didn't probably take too much work to improve on that. I do agree the crowd seemed close to the reported 11,000 attendance, but I am only sure of one thing, and that is the lack of excitement and fun will drive away many of those new attendees that don't know that it could be much better.
Lets review what Pitizenlyn wrote on another thread.
She said "The lanyards were cool, but honestly I'm more concerned with keeping the team than having a lanyard. I hear Mr Bouchy is performing miracles with the money this year, and whatever we have to do to avoid being the next city to lose a team is fine by me."
Pitizenlyn, what "Miracles" are you talking about? The one who should be concerned about losing the team, are those who might have to pay out 2.2 million this summer. I GUARANTEE Mr Bouchy is not performing miracles with money. It's not called a "Miracle" when you cut out 95% of former Rattlers employees. It's not called a "Miracle" when you cut out the booms and fireworks. It's not called a "Miracle" when you hire an introvert to be your new PA guy. It's not called a "Miracle" when you take away loyal ticket holders seats, just to make some VIP seats. It's not called a "Miracle" when you take away perks from so called premium seat holders, after raising their ticket prices. There are many more so called "Miracles" that really are not happening.
Worried about the team leaving Phoenix??? Hell no! It might just as well happen, but I am not worried about it. I worry about much larger things, like what name they will call Wendall next time he runs out of the tunnel pre-game. I worry about our stupid sideboard mat that doesn't stay attached all game long and arena employees are too lazy to fix correctly. I worry about falling through the holes in the floor around our seating area. I worry about those so called free drink perks given to us under cheaper ticket prices and now taken away under high ticket prices. I worry about Gino getting enough hot dogs up in his VIP corporate booth last night, along with all those former Rattlers employees. And finally I worry about all those fans leaving the arena early, not because we are losing, but because they had "NO FUN".

First, let me comment on Big Johns reference to Gene Nudo's suite. That did not come easy to Gino! The Rattlers organization did not willingly help him be there. The people in that suite were lucky to be at the game. They wanted to "hide" but watch the team they love so much. The Rattlers charged BO KELLY for his seats to the game. Vince Amey was there because some season ticket holders couldn't make the extremely late game and was willing to give him their tickets. Ex-Rattlers players were not allowed to be comped any tickets.
As for everyone wanting Bonner back. He didn't leave because of money. He left because his new bosses considered him a washed-up has-been. Chicago believes in him, and rightfully so. Bo Kelly didn't retire (and give his job to Faoa?) because he was through with football. He was through with the new Rattlers.
Next,This was NOT a fun game! Remember in the GOOD ole days when we would hear the phrase "This is NOT a library"? Well it WAS a library last night.
Next, What game were you watching Skooter? Trufant gave up every touchdown the Avengers got. He needs to be looking for a job today. Along with half the Offensive line. Although, I will give them... They were "offensive" as I was offended by them. I think both quarterbacks were offended by them as well.
Next, I totally agree with Big John on his assesment of the "Miracle" with the money. Closest thing to a miracle I've seen so far is the ol' dissapearing act.
Finally, Why didn't the should-have-been-rookie-of-the-year Trandon Harvey not see any quality time? Well, according to "The Guy" the coaching staff has financial obligations to other players besides Harvey. Obligations to allow Mr. Burley to give up on half his routes? Obligations to Cambell and Smoker to allow them some laying down time during the games by not using the best short pass man on the team? How about some responsibilty to the fans or the whole team? I understand that Trandon is one of the lowest paid players on the team. Yes, we lucked out by getting him on a 2 year deal when he was a rookie. I would rather have the lowest paid receive win us a game than see Siaha Burley demand the ball and lose game after game. If you think this idea is wrong look at last week's game versus this week's game.

I also thought Trufant was one of the bright spots of the game last night. Showed great closing speed and seems to be a good ballhawk. The defense is much better than last year's, we just had problems getting stops on 3rd and 4th.
And to clear up the tunnell thing the reason it was messed up was because they called everyone's name that is on the roster even though some didn't dress. Which s why they called Harris and McKenzie for example. Wendall went behind another player that got called correctly, i'm guessing he got sick of waiting in the tunnell plus he wasn't even supposed to play because of a bum ankle. So that's not really managements fault.
Enough with the Bonner stuff, we all loved him, but let's move on..... He's past his best days, and if I remember correctly some on here were calling for Nudo to give Sanders or someone else a chance to build for the future. He'll work well in Chicago because he has Harrell and an experienced and solid team.
Burley will be well worth the money in the long run, he obviously tweaked the ankle that was already supposedly injured (which kept him out of the Utah game ) on that 1st TD. Obviously the Avengers made sure Wheeler knew that it was huge to keep Siaha controlled and he did. We do not need another good receiver, I believe we are one of the deepest in the league at wideout. Jerrian James is a big receiver that was catching slants all over Utah, Nickerson has nice hands and can go over the middle, Burley is the best, and we all know what Harvey can do. Even Atnaf played a good game in Utah.
Campbell being out obviously threw off the rhythm of the offense, Smoker is a pocket qb and that got compromised time after time. The O-Line definitely needs to pick up the slack. Maybe the coaches will decide to activate Atlas Herrion to see what he has..
That was my take on it....

I agree, except for Trufant. I watched him get burned time after time. If he's the best we have, we will be getting our money back in June. Of course when the people out of bounds can knock the ball back in for a completed reception and touchdown there isn't a whole lot you can do as a defender.
I still would have enjoyed the loss if the atmosphere was there.

We've (family of 4) been season ticket holders for 16 years and slowly worked our way down to the second row after spending the last 3 on the 3rd row. My kids love this team and the game, I did too until Monday Night. That was a total embarrassment, but wait it gets better.
I bop up to the "Lexus/Toyota club" grab a couple of waters and a soda (not abusing the perk like so many others have over the years) and walk away $11 poorer plus pissed off. $3 for 7 ozs of Water??? Are you kidding me????
The only bright spot I saw all night was Windall's motor never stopped. I counted 3 sacks. Every other player can pack their bags and hit the road now. You guys suck! That was the worst AFL game I have ever had the misfortune to watch. Direct TV and I DVR any and all games I can HD or not I've seen many many games. Looks like those are the only games worth watching now.
Smoker the Joker... don't breath to hard in the stands he may fall over or worst yet fumble another one away. Sanders was way better than either tard we are stuck with now. Sanders had Heart.
Voice? That guys sucks too! We had some bad voices the last couple of years but my 9 year old can do a better job. And the music was all from Rockband, Guitar Hero 2 or 3. Very original!
New owner / management? I'd rather have last years team, at least they had heart. I can't wait to get my money back at the end of the year, but don't be surprised if it takes a class-action law suite to make that happen. Oh yea remember that $3 water?
For the 1st time in 10+ years of reading Big Johns messages I agree with most every thing you wrote. It pains me to say this but I hope they lose and I get my money back. Sell the team and go away. My heart is broken and my memories of the glory days are all that remain. This team is not the Rattlers, give back the name and play as the sidewinders or Baby Rattles but you do not deserve to be a member of the Arizona Rattlers.
This is my last year, the game sucks the players suck, management is a joke and well the coaches...bring back the crack-head.
My Ratter Gear is now a permanent fixture in my office. Make me eat my words "I DARE YOU", anything less than the playoffs and my Guarantee is "BYE" FOREVER.

Do not bring back the crack-head. That's when all our problems started because Todd Shell didn't know shit about coaching. We should have never got rid of that White guy, he was a pretty good coach. We might not have won the arenabowl in 3 straight tries, but at least we won games and had fun.

I must say that I do agree with a lot of what everyone is saying on here about the game Monday night, but honestly that was only the second game. Have a little faith it's a new team. You need to give them half a chance (The team that is) Management needs to figure out what the hell they are doing. Cutting corners with the fireworks and the booms is ridiculous! Maybe they over spent on the "pretty" new uniforms!

Wow. Great posts. I've never seen Big John be so negative (in the past he has criticized those he viewed as too negative), but I don't blame him. The game was horrible. Our blocking needs work and we clearly miss Vince (though I think John may disagree with there). Smoker was dreadful --sure he didn't have time to set up, but he held onto the ball way too much and many of his throws were off-target. My hope is that with a solid week of practice he'll improve vs. SJ.
As for the "boom" after TDs, I guess I'm in the minority. I don't miss that at all. I found it annoying as hell. I do agree that Fang has passed his expiration date. At least they didn't try to drag that pathetic old buffalo out there.
Interesting observations on Truffant by other posters. I, too, loved his effort, energy and good technique (wow, a DB who actually looks for the ball when its in the air!). But, its almost like were at a different game. He got burned several times and the Avengers picked on him all night. Why? He has skills, but he is simply too short. Either we need to improve the rush (so the QB doesn't have time to pick on Truffant) or we need to get someone taller in there. As for Bonner, I miss him too, but anyone who watched the Chicago-Philly game knows that he isn't the player he once was. After last season, we needed some changes. Time will tell whether the $ saved by cutting Bonner was worth it.
I'm rooting for mgmt to pull it off, but...
I'm disappointed to hear that Vince Amey and Bo Kelly had to pay for their seats. I'm happy to give them one of my tickets any time. They deserve it. What makes it more interesting is that I know for a fact that a prominent Avengers fan and his buddies were comped tickets to the game. The only requirement was that he not wear his rainbow wig. To be fair, he was a very cool guy and does some volunteer work for the team. But, The Rattlers comp opposing fans but not our alumni?!?!?!?! That needs to change.
Regardless, I expect much better vs. SJ and next week v. NY. Go Rattlers!

Reading the posts I agree with several of the concerns we all have. For the team, I am worried about the protection for the QB. This is something that will take time to get better. I say why not try have the QB run out of the pocket more or heck try the shotgun if needed. Being only two games into the season I will hold judgement until I see a few more games, but if the protection doesn't get better it's going to be a very long season.
Now concerning the whole firework situation it's weird not having them. Arena Football is about being different. The national anthem is great, however it's that much better with the fireworks at the end. The boom after touchdowns doesn't matter to me either way but it was weird not having after the touchdowns. I have no idea how much it costs but to cut out both doesn't make sense.
The benches in the endzone is just strange. Not much else to say on that.
As for the announcer I was disappointed. His voice didn't come across very well. Hopefully over time that can be taken care of. I know we can't get Munn back but maybe he can teach the new announcer some things about what to do.
I am looking forward the next few games at it will give us a better idea of where the team is at.

Munn was too busy chasing the baseball team around and didn't WANT to be there so don't count on that. The guy I'd love to see back is Barnett. He loved being there and he was a great announcer.
I think we need to see more than one bad game before we pack it in, but that's just my opinion. Obviously I'm not looking for a slaughter of San Jose tonight with our starting QB on crutches, but there's a lot of football left to play.
See you all in the stands.

Please forgive me for my tardy post, but what in the world is going on here? We lost a football game, we played terrible and everyone seems to care about everything other than the game.
rattlers_#_1fan,
Yes, the PA announcer should be able to get the lineups straight. Yes, the PA announcer should bring excitement into the arena. That's not the reason we lost the game. Don't blame it on the PA announcer.
Who cares if there weren't big BOOMS after touchdowns? A touchdown is worth six points whether there's a BOOM or there's not a BOOM. You don't get an additional point for a BOOM. You still have to kick the extra point. Besides, we only scored five touchdowns. Who cares about five BOOMS?
And nobody cares if the guy sitting next to you paid $6.25 less than you did for his ticket. What's $6.25 in the long run? Here's some news ... there was a guy in the upper deck named WAYNE who paid about $30 less than you. There were lots of guys who didn't pay at all, so they paid $37 less than you.
In the future, please don't complain, complain, complain, then end your post by saying you left with 10 minutes left in the game. Do you know what you missed in the last 10 minutes? They switched PA announcers, they fired off 10 BOOMS in a row and they gave everybody in the arena $6.25.

We get a coach in Kevin Guy who just helped the SaberCats (our archrival) win the ArenaBowl, a coach who I don't believe ever lost to the Rattlers in his time in San Jose, a coach who cleaned house and already has put his own stamp on this franchise, and you're calling for his head because we're 1-1. Great point with moving the benches. Let's go back to the way it was before. Let's put the benches on the sidelines and prevent season-ticket holders from having premium seats. Let's let the players sit on the sidelines so they can see the game better. Let's not worry about all the revenue we can make by moving the players to the corners. Besides, Rattlerman now sits where the Rattlers bench used to be, so the sweaty-locker-room smell is about the same.

Wildman Phil,
I'm not ripping you, I'm being serious. I completely agree with your take on Trandon Harvey. He definitely needs to be in the game. I don't think he got one offensive play in the LA game. How can our leading receiver from last year not touch the field? No offense to James and Nickerson, but we need to find a way to get Trandon in the game and get him the ball.
RattlersFans,
Didn't you ask how much the water cost before you opened your wallet and handed someone $3 for 7-ounce bottles? I'm so confused ... you said you paid $11 when the 7-ounce bottles were $3 apiece. How's that possible? If you bought three bottles for $3 apiece, that would be $9. If you bought four bottles for $3 apiece, that would be $12. Were you charged a really crazy tax to get from $9 to $11, and that's why you are mad? Or did you really buy four bottles for $12 and get a $1 discount to get to $11? If that's the case, why are you complaining about saving $1?
