How come the kickers don't just kick it on the ground instead of letting the other team just get a good bounce off the net?

The Kicker usually aims to hit the iron on the field goal so the ball will bounce off it aquardly and it would be hard for the other team to catch it. There are a lot of turnovers of kick returns because the ball will have an aquard bounce of the nets. If the ball goes through the uprights on a kick off the ball is spotted on the 5 yard line.
