Yet another Havoc penalty... this time for Ortiz and it's backkkk on the PK with about 6 min to go in the game... critical kill here for the Havoc.

And another excellent kill for the Havoc with a nice shorthanded opportunity for kauf that didn't quite go in.

The Havoc are right back on the attack, taking more and more shots now as the snakes start showing some desperation play themselves.

About 2 min left in the game...

Both teams playing a lot cleaner (or the refs have swallowed the whistles). Columbutt putting more and more pressure on the havoc in the zone but the boys holding... and the snakes pull the goalie...

SCOOOOORE RADOVICH WITH THE EMPTY NETTER PUTTING THE GAME ON ICE FROM THE REDLINE!!!

And that's the game - the Havoc I think can count themselves lucky to walk away with the win tonight after letting the snakes back into the game when they had a 3 to 0 lead.

Clearly there were some issues. Even if you assume the refs made some bad calls and account for the fact there were 2 refs making calls, the Havoc were still taking too many penalties. I have to say, though, they were getting a lot of help from the snakes.

Dig the last 2 periods:

Period 2
Columbus - Nicolas Boucher - (Slashing), 2 min, 0:39
Columbus - Craig Stahl - (Holding), 2 min, 4:53
Huntsville - Jeff White - (Interference), 2 min, 5:29
Columbus - Tim Hockley - (Cross Checking), 2 min, 6:28
Huntsville - Mike Carter - (Elbowing), 2 min, 6:28
Huntsville - Martin Kubaliak - (Slashing), 2 min, 7:09
Columbus - Jason Slusher - (Roughing), 2 min, 9:37
Huntsville - Martin Kubaliak - (Roughing), 2 min, 9:37
Columbus - Tyler Johnson - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 13:35
Huntsville - Dennis Sicard - (Instigator), 2 min, 13:35
Huntsville - Dennis Sicard - (Fighting Major), 5 min, 13:35
Columbus - Ryan McCarthy - (Holding), 2 min, 16:32
Columbus - Ryan McCarthy - (Roughing), 2 min, 18:50
Huntsville - Mike MacDonald - (Roughing), 2 min, 18:50

Period 3
Huntsville - Ray Ortiz - (Hooking), 2 min, 0:22
Columbus - Will Barlow - (Holding), 2 min, 0:22
Huntsville - Dennis Sicard - (Roughing), 2 min, 2:51
Huntsville - Nick Monroe - (Interference), 2 min, 5:25
Columbus - Tim Hockley - (Tripping), 2 min, 7:01
Columbus - Jeff Martens - (Roughing), 2 min, 7:01
Huntsville - Justin Rohr - (Roughing), 2 min, 7:01
Columbus - Jason Slusher - (Boarding), 2 min, 9:06
Columbus - Nicolas Boucher - (Roughing), 2 min, 9:06
Huntsville - Martin Kubaliak - (Roughing), 2 min, 9:06
Huntsville - Ray Ortiz - (Hooking), 2 min, 13:40

Granted, the snakes were forcing the issue and trying to push the Havoc player's buttons with a lot of rough stuff on the smaller guys, but the Havoc still have to clean up the play some. You just can't give up that many PPs. That said, I can't say I blame the guys for striking back against the rough stuff the snakes were throwing, but other teams are likely to attempt to exploit that. We also probably should have gotten a few more shots on our PP opportunities, but as fast as the number of players kept changing, it was tough to settle in. It was a pretty weird game all the way around with the penalties.

Also, we had problems winning faceoffs.

On the positive side, the D was outstanding much of the game, especially on the PK. Columbus was getting shots off, but a large number of them weren't getting to the goalie thanks to heads up blocks. White was a standout and Petiot had some excellent play as well. Obviously, Rohr is still riding the hot streak and I agree with Mike B... it's only a matter of time before the MacDonald and Carter shots start going in.

The early shooting streak was critical to the win as the Havoc made the most of their opportunities before the snakes started to fight back. By then it was too late, though. The Havoc came out on top through the first 2 periods and managed to hold off the attack in the 3rd.

While they have some work to do and it wasn't a pretty win, in my book, all Havoc wins are beautiful.

HT - pretty accurate calls there. It DID look like the snakes had home ice advantage as far as the refs go though... but they played through it. Saw plenty of positives.

Thought Sibald deserved at least one of the stars. Sorry Radovich... but an empty net goal over Sibald's defense?

How are you getting the game in HD, HT?

Thanks G. I don't know that the refs gave much of an advantage. Based on what I could see, they were both earning their penalties. Probably more got started by the snakes but the Havoc players retaliated, so it was a fair cop most of the time. I also noticed that we ended up with 1 in the box while they had 2 on a number of occasions. I dunno that either one had an advantage and if one did, it wasn't much of one. I didn't do a minute by minute breakdown, but you surely could count the number of 5 on 5 minutes in the 2nd on one hand and without your thumb. That was getting silly.

I think it's also worthwhile to mention the MacDondald no goal... I texted two folks that are a couple feet from that particular net and to those folks it was a clear cut goal. Was hard to see on B2, but I thought it was in and the folks right on top of it are swearing it was in. I'm just glad that goal wasn't the deciding factor.

The new Superbeast computer is full HD... sadly, B2 is very, very not HD. I'd hoped my previous issues with that had more to do with my old computer, but it's clearly not. Between the camera, bandwidth and the VBC lighting, it looks like there's a horrible smog problem in the VBC... almost no color besides brownish. But, it sure beats no Havoc hockey at all! I'm just thankful for MBs excellent calls because you'd never be able to really tell what was going on or who was who more than half the time.

we got killed with technical problems last night, so i apologize to anyone who was watching that one along with tiger. it's kind of hard to call a game when you're trying to fix 3 emergencies at once.

hopefully it'll be better tonight

Well good thing I was there watching live and not having to depend on B2. Good luck getting it fixed.

Sure looked "in" from our angle... we had no doubt....

Mike - honestly, it was really hard to tell you were getting slammed like you were. You guys covered well. I did notice an increase in video quality there in the 3rd, but other than the normal issues that come with b2 (bad white balance and the occasional freeze), I thought you did an excellent job of keeping the other issues from getting in the way of the game.
