Hi Cannons fans!
The second weekend of training camp was another fun one. Saturday was a long day for the team, starting off with our annual Season Ticket Holder Appreciation Day at Noon. Despite rain forcing the front office to move the event inside, everyone seemed to be enjoying the event...and the free food from Qdoba!
After new Cannons GM Mark Katrud welcomed the crowd, Coach Bill Daye took the stage to introduce the players who were at camp. The players then did some mingling, took some pictures and signed a ton of stuff. The dance team and Boomer were also there making sure everyone was having a great time. I chalked the event up as a success.
After all the food was gone, most people headed out to watch the Harvard Men's Lacrosse team take on Dartmouth in their final game of the season. The Big Green ended up taking down the Crimson, 12-6, making certain people in the Cannons organization smile (Ryan Danehy is an Assistant Coach for Dartmouth, and Cannons President Matt Dwyer is a proud Dartmouth grad), but the rest of us were disappointed for our Harvard boys.
The rain continued as the Cannons took the field for practice around 3:30. The roster looked a bit different from the first weekend of camp as some players still weren't available to attend, and also Coach BD brought a few new guys in for a look. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out as we approach May 17th.
In: Matt Poskay, Former Cannon Rodger Colbert, Peter Milliman, Craig Hammond, Nick Bastis, Chris Feifs...
Out: Johnny Christmas, Matt Alrich, and Brett Bucktooth (all still playing indoor lacrosse), Mikey Powell and Chris Passavia (both for family reasons) and Jake Coon, who I'm told became a dad again on Saturday! Congrats to the Coon family!
Coach BD ran the team through more game-like drills this weekend, to get a feel of how certain players will contribute at their positions. He seems to have a pretty good read on the team now, although there will still definitely be some difficult player personnel decisions to make.
After a good practice, everyone went over to King's in the Back Bay for some bowling and team bonding. Coach Murphy and Matt Poskay were better bowlers than I expected. You'll get to see some of Poskay's bowling skills soon in the video blog he's doing for Lax United. It's good stuff.
Sunday morning's training camp practice was a rainy mess. The monsoon conditions started pretty much exactly when practice began. Lovely. We've had some bad weather luck so far in camp, but as Mark Kastrud put it, hopefully this mean's we'll have GREAT weather for our home opener! We can only hope...! |
